Roll Your Own Single Sign-On Using Identity Server 4 and DotNet Core

Authentication and Authorization are core components of every application that you work on. These same components are also the targets of bad actors trying to access your system, so it is our jobs as developers to keep these systems up to date and secure. With decreasing application turnaround times, it becomes a challenge to maintain the libraries and patch levels in every application you write. So why not rely on a single central implementation and a standards based protocol that all of the big tech players are using to provide this for your enterprise. We will be talking about a library called IdentityServer4, and Microsoft's latest ASP.NET Core Identity, and how you can leverage them in .NET Core to create your own single sign-on solution. This is the same protocol employed by Facebook, Google, Twitter, Microsoft, and Yahoo. It will give you the ability to Authenticate users and provide tokens to your applications and APIs to create robust Authorization policies.
